Issues on Computer Technology
In Midsayap, in a small and poverty-stricken town in North Cotabato, Philippines, four public schools have been given modern computer technology to help the teachers improve instruction for the benefit of the students. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has donated the computers, installed with tools and applications for teaching. The donations were in relation to USAIDââ¬â¢s project to help provide equal access to education and learning that would eventually incite livelihood among the peoples of disadvantaged and unfortunate nations.(Manila Bulletin, 2009) The contribution of computer technology to the field of education relates to the issue of professional responsibility. The progress and advancement of computers and technology are extremely valuable to society considering the many benefits and advantages that it may provide to various areas of human life including education. It is a professional responsibility to ensure that along with the progress of computer technology development, it is being used to develop or expand other fields and areas of human life as well.It is important that the given opportunity for computer technology to flourish by man be given back to society by ensuring that this kind of technology benefits society as well. Modern computer technology has helped educators in developing countries provide the kind of quality education that most people in developed nations benefit from. Crime and Best Glorification
The best glorification of crime and criminals seems to be portrayed in the news, TV, and movies. Often you will see how a bank robber will get away with the cash and never get caught. In movies criminals seem to get away with their crimes if in some way the crime is justified. In todayââ¬â¢s world it sometimes appears to be easier if youââ¬â¢re the bad guy. This mind set is due to the portrayal of the criminal in movies and on the news. A prime example of glorifying a criminal would be CSI. CIS is a television show that is based on crime scenes and criminal minds. CSI goes into a criminals mind and show how and why I crime happens. This makes the criminal mind seem fascinating and sometimes portrays the criminal as a genius. I feel almost making the crime and criminal as famous and as powerful as the show itââ¬â¢s self. Another example would be Law Abiding Citizen. The main character goes on a killing spire on the justice center of Philadelphia. Even though he has killed so many people you still feel sympathetic towards him because his family was brutally raped and murdered and the justice center did nothing. Due to the circumstances he decided to take actions in to his own hands. This movie, in many ways, makes the crimes and the criminal more glorious as if he had done the right thing. The news is another example of glorifying crime and criminals. The news often talks about how cops can not control gangs, how the gangs are growing and becoming more powerful. This makes the gangs more glorious and, in ways, only adds power to the gang. For young children growing up in gang-ran areas this may push them to join because of the mediaââ¬â¢s portrayal of the power associated with gangs. The best glorification of crime and criminals seems to be portrayed in the news, TV, and movies. The media truly seems to make it look easier to be the bad guy. In todayââ¬â¢s news and movies the criminals seems to be powerful or justified.

A cardiac stress test requires you to walk on a treadmill or ride a stationary bicycle until your heart rate reaches a level where your heart is ââ¬Å"stressedâ⬠. You may not be able to participate in this kind of test if you have a condition such as a stroke.In this case, a chemical stress test is used. This test is used to help your doctor determine if you have any kind of heart condition causing the chest pain, if arteries to the heart have blockage or narrowing, identify an irregular heart rhythm, monitor the heartââ¬â¢s response to treatment or procedures, and plan rehabilitation after a heart attack. A stress test is a clinical standard often used to detect coronary artery disease.The imaging portion of the test is identical to that used during stress echocardiography or isotope stress testing and is performed either in a cardiologist office, a satellite lab or the hospital. An intravenous line is started in the arm, the blood pressure is checked and an EKG recorded. Common medications used for a chemical stress test include dipyridamole, dobutamine, and adenosine.Medication is supplied until 85 percent of your age-predicted maximum heart rate has been reached. In the initial phases of exercise in the upright position, cardiac output is increased by an augmentation in stroke volume meditated through the use of the Frank-Starling Mechanism and heart rate. Treadmill stress testing is the test of choice when a patient is able to exercise because of the physiologic effect that exercise has on the blood pressure and heart rate.It also helps give the physician an idea about the patientââ¬â¢s exercise tolerance and whether or not the exertion has any adverse effects on the patientââ¬â¢s symptoms or irregular heartbeats. My first inquiry assignment therefore was only to give me an outline of what I need to do in order to answer my inquiry question. This brings a connection of the two assignments in a very interesting manner. It made me learn that one needs to make the first reading of a text or a novel to find its storyline. I then used the first reading to know what the novel talks about in a nutshell. From there, I was able to form a proper question that could help me scrutinize the whole novel. I was able to answer the formulated question by making a closer and critical reading of the novel as required by the second inquiry assignment. In the second assignment, I only went through certain sections of the novel, reading to find specific points that would give answers to my question. This helped me particularly to know what the author was trying to pass across to his readers. My major aim was to find the authors hidden meaning of the texts through his story and make them become lessons that everyone can use or learn from. However, unification of Germany into a nation state accompanied by ambitious economic policies stimulated unprecedented development, which challenged Great Britainââ¬â¢s influence in the continent. One of the major causes of economic rivalry was trade disputes, arising from tariffs imposed on goods of competing countries in the overseas markets. According to Fussel (2000), tariff disputes emerged not only between Germany and Britain, but other growing economies in the region, such as Italy and France, Serbia and Austria, in addition to Germany and Russia among other trading partners. The subsequent economic competition resulted into tense and suspicious relations between concerned countries, making war inevitable. Large-scale militarisation was one of the major consequences of increasing competition between rival countries in Europe. According to Keegan (1999), each country attempted to build and strengthen its military power leading to arms race in European continent. Between 1870 and 1914, David (2005, p107) noted that military expenditure among the competing countries in Europe increased by 300 percent. Most countries introduced mandatory conscription of all citizens above eighteen years into the armed forces. Development of Germanyââ¬â¢s military was particularly phenomenal. According to Kennedy (1988, p69), the country had over 8 million soldiers compared to Britainââ¬â¢s 750,000 in 1913. The notion that sex sells has been used to sell everything from cigarettes to cars, so why leave out music. And right from the time that Queen created ââ¬ËBohemian Rhapsodyââ¬â¢, the very first English music video, music videos became a more and more important art form. There was even a time when the music didnââ¬â¢t really matter, the videos did. You could have the crappiest music and lyrics, but if you had a good video, with handsome boys and sexy girls doing their thing without a second thought, you had the makings of a hit on MTV. Take Lady Gaga and her ââ¬ËBad Romanceââ¬â¢ video. I donââ¬â¢t think I could come up with a worse video if I searched for years. Yet she is a top selling artist, even more famous than Avril Lavigne or Taylor Swift, whose songs and music definitely have more merit. Let us now consider the argument often put forward by parents and politicians that sex and violence has been the mainstay of music videos for some time now. Most likely this started with videos by Madonna, or Prince, or Shakira, in which sexual content and contentions are the order of the day. Look, sex sells and while such videos have often been used by upcoming artists to increase their publicity and shock value, the effect is fleeting. That is because airplay is limited, and competition is fierce in the music industry. If we take the lyrics of Shaggyââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËIt Wasnââ¬â¢t Meââ¬â¢ or Pinkââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËFucking Perfectââ¬â¢ or Akonââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËSheââ¬â¢s Getting Nakedââ¬â¢, most of the 40 plus crowd will be shocked to hear the lyrics, much less see the songs on MTV. Yet most of us hardly react with a shrug. Itââ¬â¢s all make-believe, w e say, and our kids should know that. But do they really? Letââ¬â¢s say some Lothario or super vixen wants to act this out in real life. Does it catch on, and how bad would it be? I would say the effect would be limited. Description of personal warm-up Essay Before training or playing a match in my sport I will always follow a warm-up program. This warm-up will help prevent injury such as muscle pulls and tears. As well as being physically prepared it will also help me be mentally prepared which is especially important in a match situation. My warm-up consists of a few running drills and then into a set of stretches followed by some skilled drills. It is very important to do some running drills before stretching as muscles need to be stretched when warm to prevent injury. A simple 3 minute jog would warm the muscles enough for stretching. Stretches These are the stretches that I would go through. Each stretch has a diagram, to demonstrate how the stretch is done, and the names of the muscles being stretched. Neck muscles (Sternocleidomastoid and scalenes) Shoulder muscle (Deltoids, Trapezius and Triceps) Spine Quadriceps (Rectus temoris and Sartoius) Hamstrings Gluteus Maximas (Gluteuls) Groin (Pectinus, Odducta longas and Odducta magnus) Skilled drills The final part of my warm up consists of practicing skills with my teammates. There are many forms that we can practice skills with. Grid work Grid work will be set out with players on four corners facing each other as shown in the diagram. = players = running path The players will run to the opposite corner of the grid with a rugby ball and pass it on the player facing them. They can pass it on in number of ways; * A simple pass * A pop pass for the player to run onto * A high pass for the player to jump for * A gut pass Lateral passing Another drill that can be used is the lateral passing drill. Rather than passing forward in grid work, lateral passing consists of passing backwards down a line like a match situation. Players should be in several groups of about 3 to 6 and they should line up at two opposite ends as shown in the diagram. = players = running path = ball path Each group should run to the other end while passing the ball along the line. The distance should be enough for the ball to go down the line 3 times. Benefits of a warm up If a warm up is carried out in the right way it can give many benefits: * Loss of muscle stiffness * As haemoglobin releases oxygen easier at higher muscle temperatures there is facilitated oxygen utilization by the muscles * Speed and force of contraction is increased as the higher temperature of the muscle gives it more energy * Vascular beds dilate in the active tissues increasing blood flow * As muscles are warmed there is reduced resistance which allows a greater economy of movement * Reduces chance of injuries such as tears, pulls etc. Cool down A cool down is just important as the warm up and should always be done after training or a match. I will always cool down after a match or training with my team by simply jogging for 5-10 minutes. This will gently decrease my body temperature. I will also do a series of stretches for 5-10 minutes. Benefits of a cool down A cool down will give a number of benefits: * Reduce the chances of DOMS (Delayed-onset muscle soreness) * Decrease the level of adrenaline in the blood * Helps in the release of lactic acid in the muscles

Small retail shop owner and all landlords are motivated to increase the rental and maximize their return on investment. There was no proof to indicate who the leader, and there was also no evidence to propose that rentals escalated faster after REIT takeover of existing malls. REIT owned malls are not statistically distinct from those of single-owner malls after controlling for factors such as location and asset enhancement initiatives (AEI). Asset enhancement is a continual action to generate value for shoppers, tenants and the community in REITs mall neighborhoods. To increase the value of portfolio, REITs proceeding asset enhancement works have supported REITs asset management strategy associated to tenant mix, customer service and promotional activities by upgrading the layouts, efficiency and facilities of the properties that cover the portfolio. The main objective of REITs asset enhancement projects is to generate a decent retail environment that seduce new retailers, seize the changing needs of consumers and give satisfactory returns for investors. Asset enhancements also authorize REITs to serve to new demand. Store (or mall) atmosphere has an effect on shoppersââ¬â¢ behavioral responses: cognitive (e.g. beliefs, categorization, symbolic meaning), emotional (e.g. mood, attitude) and physiological (e.g. pain, comfort, etc.). These behavioral responses, in turn, play an important role in shaping shoppersââ¬â¢ approach and avoidance motivation toward the store (or mall) at large. Thus, atmospherics is customarily used by retailers to attract and maintain traffic. Based on that, shoppers use whatever available information cues, such as atmospherics cues, to evaluate unavailable, missing or difficult to evaluate information such as price and quality. Several store-related stu dies were able to demonstrate that shoppers make inferences about quality of merchandise using store atmospheric cues. In a shopping mall context, we can found that the ambient scent (an atmospheric cue) influenced the perception of merchandise quality. In despite of so many complaints, there is plenty of demand for space out there. There are some chain retails which have very strong bargaining power against REITs and some deep-pocket retailers also contribute to rental hiking. It happened because the improved economic conditions, healthy, tourist, arrivals, low unemployment and growing household income have underpinned consumer spending in Singapore Singaporeââ¬â¢s retail scene needs major changes for improve themselves to become more attractive to compete with places like Hong Kong and Shanghai. Furthermore, among the malls that are obtained by REITs, there is no evidance to show that the rents in these malls climbed as a result of the acquisition. Even the REITs certainly want to rise the rental price, they should still make sure the retailerââ¬â¢s business is active, taking care not to distract the balance. If the retailers shut down their business, it is not to the REITsââ¬â¢ interest. With many REITS in the commercial sector as well as a even bigger number of other landlords, there is free interaction of market constrain, therefore, tenant able to choose not to continue lease and move to other different mall. You sit your child in front of the television for hours at a time. They stair at the screen with glossy eyes and total amazement. Yet what is it that they are learning from these shows? It is the hidden message of violence and dysfunction, which keeps children entertained. If you look at all of the shows, which I have mentioned above, they seem to have a common theme. Violence. Whether this message is intended or not is another issue, however, the violence is there. The Power Rangers for example, their mission is to save the planet from evil space monsters. How do they achieve this? By killing the monsters, thus becoming heroes. The RoadRunner, every week he tries to kill Wielly Coyote. He instead gets killed each time, but it is only temporary. Finally we come to Bugs Bunny and Yo Sammity Sam. Each time, Yo Sammity Sam, tries to kill Bugs Bunny, chasing after him with a shotgun. What type of message is this sending to our youth? Children see violence as their entertainment. As adults we know the difference between what is real and what isnââ¬â¢t. Do children know this difference as well? When a character dies but only for a second, do children know this is not how it really is? In one study by a scientist named Linne (Condry p.89) it was found that television these cartoons do effect how children think. Cartoons how the person with power to come out on top as the triumphant winner-of - all. After exposure to violent cartoons children were less likely to share with one another and more likely to use aggression as a means to... ...following that pattern out of belief that we too posses these characteristics. By constantly viewing violent shows we have learned to believe that we live in a violent culture. It allows us to view our own acts of violence as well as others as being normal and acceptable. When we turn on the television we turn on more than just entertainment. We turn on a part of ourselves that is almost subliminally derived. We allow ourselves be impressed upon by the notions of violence being common and acceptable. This notion is something that we keep with us. You may push a button on your television set and watch the screen go dim. However the ideas in your head will long remain once the show is done. No Way Out Essay -- Literary Analysis
The short story, The Chrysanthemums, by John Steinbeck, is a fascinating tale that involves the life of a beautiful, yet misunderstood, women as she battles with the prolonged sting of isolation. After years of captivity on a farm, Elisa finds it difficult to feel like a free woman. As a result, Elisa becomes guarded and closed-off to even her husband. Despite her masculine persona, Elisa lets her shielded exterior down when an opportunity to escape presents itself. Trapped in the confines of her farm, Elisa creates a kind of ââ¬Å"intimate relationshipâ⬠with her cherished chrysanthemums as a way to keep her sanity (French 64). Through the cunning use of symbolism, and the forces of human nature combined with the female limitations of the time, Steinbeck enhances the idea that happiness cannot fit between the bars of a cage. Steinbeck first enriches the feeling of despondency with the clever use of symbolism. The story opens with a detailed description of the Salinas Valley. Here, Steinbeck relates the valley to a ââ¬Å"closed pot,â⬠which suggests Elisaââ¬â¢s inability to escape. Furthermore, Steinbeck describes that even though there is sunlight nearby, the Salinas Valley sees none. As sunlight is often associated with happiness, the implication here is that while others are happy, Elisa is not. To further the use of symbolic reference, Steinbeck relates Elisa to the hopeful farmers in the area. Farmers believe that rain is imminent due to the southwest wind that sweeps through the valley. Unfortunately, the encumbering fog repudiates any chance of this happening. Like the false hope that torments the farmers, Elisa is burdened by an illusion that happiness still might come for her. The Economic Botany of Manilkara zapota (L.) Van Royen America is well versed in the use of a byproduct of the plant Manilkara zapota (L.) Van Royen, yet few people are aware of this product's history. Chewing gum has its origins in the economic botany of the Chicle tree (M. zapota). Throughout Mexico and Central America, the Sapotaceae plant family is recognized for its latex. Manilkara zapota (synonym: Achras zapota L.) is an evergreen canopy tree of medium size (15-30 meters in height) native to Central America, which is currently cultivated throughout the tropics of the world (Castner, Timme, & Duke, 1998). The Sapotaceae (Soapberry family) belongs to the Ebenales order along with the Ebenaceae, Styracaceae, Lissocarpacee, and Symplocaceae according to the Cronquist system of plant classification (Jones & Luchsinger, 1986). Historically, M. zapta was an important source of timber and latex in the new world tropics (Janzen, 1983). The latex is a milk-white exudate produced in laticifer canals under the phloem bark surface (Simpson & Ogorzaly, 1995). The latex is known as chicle, which had its highest demand during the rubber boom of tropical America in the 1800's. When the United States and Great Brittain established Rubber tree (Hevea spp.) plantations in southeast Asia in 1876, the rubber boom occurred in tropical America. Economies were left helpless and Indian rubber collectors were massacred (Hill, 1996; Stanfield, 1998). The Chicle tree (synonyms: Sapodilla, Naseberry, Nispero) was the lone latex plant to economically survive. The Mayan Indians of Mexico and Central America traditionally have chewed the raw chicle latex. Furthermore, Aztec prostitutes loudly snapped their chewing gum to advertise their trade during the height of pre-Columbian Aztec civilization (Plotkin, 1993). This custom was common to many Mexicans, including an eccentric political leader from Veracruz. He is Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, eleven time president of Mexico (born 1794, died 1876). His military prowess is capped by success at the battle of the Alamo (1836), where Santa Anna's troops killed Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie (Simpson & Ogorzaly, 1995). His eccentric political ways got him exiled to the West Indies. The U. S. Secretary of State, William Seward, payed Santa Anna a visit in the West Indies. Assuming he gained Seward's trust, Santa Anna sailed to New York in 1866. Santa Anna's shipmates stole his money, leaving him stranded in America where Santa Anna was turned away by Secretary of State Seward. The exiled Mexican president was a wise businessman and politician who brought some chicle with him to New York.

Enduring Love Narrative Techniques Chapter 19 ââ¬â The pre-warning Page 163 Joe uses a range of symbols in this chapter; one of the symbols used is colour. Colour is used to give the reader a clue of what will happen soon. This is shown when Joe says, ââ¬Ëin memory, all the food they brought us first was red,ââ¬â¢ the use of a colour to remember a part of Joeââ¬â¢s memory gives the reader the impression that the colour symbolises a feeling or emotion that Joe may have felt. ââ¬ËRedââ¬â¢ in this case could represent danger, blood, anger, threat or jeopardy, all words that are connected to the event that occurs in this chapter.A similar symbol appears on page 172 where Colin Tapp had just been shot. There is an emphasis on colour of his shirt when Joe describes the gun shot, ââ¬Ëthe silenced bullet struck through his white shirt at his shoulder,ââ¬â¢ the use of the description about the bullet and where it hit Tapp helps put emphasis on the colour and how it ca n relate to red. White can be related to innocence, peace and the idea of being harmless or pure, therefore when Tapp is shot, the innocence is lost.This can relate to red because of Tappââ¬â¢s blood and that fact that the shooting involves danger and threat. Also the men that shot Tapp were wearing black which contributes to the idea that colour plays a large part in this chapter. The colour black is significant as it could mean that they men were dark, powerful and it can be related to death and evil in contrast to white. Page 164 Joe starts to loose his connection with the reader making their relationship weaker and distancing them.This happens because Joe makes use of multiple stories in this part of his narrative, he constantly switches back and forth from one story to the next, resulting in the uncertainty of the reader. This is shown when he says, ââ¬ËI would have liked to tell the storyâ⬠¦fondly against his arm. ââ¬â¢ This passage includes Joeââ¬â¢s thoughts about a previous part of his life, the conversation that he was presently having and what was happening on the table behind him. The frequent switch from one story to another can make the reader confused, resulting in Joe loosing his connection with the reader.The fact that Joe does notice everything happening in the restaurant gives the impression that he has a type of subconscious awareness of what is going on around him, this is shown when he says, ââ¬Ëon the next table the girl was being helped through the menu by her father. ââ¬â¢ As Joe has included numerous activities happening around him, the reader is confused on what to focus on. Joe uses hindsight at random parts of the chapter again which can make the reader loose focus on what is currently happening in Joeââ¬â¢s narrative and making the reader and Joe loose their connection.On page 167 Joe states, ââ¬ËI didnââ¬â¢t see him at the time, not until the very endââ¬â¢ and on page 165 ââ¬Ëwhen I was next a ware of her she was back in her seat. ââ¬â¢ This shows an obvious and constant use of hindsight which can make the reader confused on what Joe saw and thought at that moment. Overall the use of multiple stories, Joeââ¬â¢s subconscious awareness of everything around him and Joeââ¬â¢s use of hindsight can all contribute to the readerââ¬â¢s confusion and distance from Joe. Page 166 The reader questions Joeââ¬â¢s reliability when he states that he blamed some of his behaviour on the ââ¬Ëchampagneââ¬â¢.As Joe has stated that he had champagne and it affected his behaviour, this could imply that some of his memories or thoughts on that day may have not actually occurred or may have been different. This makes the reader question Joeââ¬â¢s ability to recall events truthfully and the reader is unsure whether Joe is a reliable and trustworthy source. Also, the readerââ¬â¢s trust in Joe is affected by the questions he asks himself, one example is on page 167 where he says, ââ¬Ëor were these details I observed later, in the chaos, or in the time after the chaos? This question leaves the reader wondering if they believe Clarissa instead of Joe. This may be because Clarissa believes that Joe has been affected by Parry and that he had lost his way of thought. Therefore the reader may not feel that they can trust what Joe says as he seems unreliable in this chapter as well as the fact that Parry may have affected Joeââ¬â¢s mind and way of thinking. Page 171 The use of language in this section helps the reader see Joeââ¬â¢s interpretation of the men that shot Colin Tapp.To the reader, Joe makes a link between the men that shot Tapp and Parry. This is shown when Joe says, ââ¬Ëboth men wore black coats that gave them a priestly look. There was a ceremony in their stillness. ââ¬â¢ The use of ââ¬Ëpriestlyââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëceremonyââ¬â¢ relate to religion and Parryââ¬â¢s beliefs. Also, the use of colour as a symbol makes another l ink between the two men and Parry as the men represent power and evil which is what Joe sees in Parry. After this, Joe names the two men as ââ¬Ëthe intrudersââ¬â¢.This term also relates to Parry as Joe feels Parry has intruded into his life by stalking him and the use of Parryââ¬â¢s letters which are frequently focused on throughout Joeââ¬â¢s narrative. Therefore, we can see why Joe has narrated the two men in this way as he is showing the reader how he thinks they relate to Parry through their appearance and behaviour. From the readerââ¬â¢s perspective, we can see that Joe sees the two men or ââ¬Ëintrudersââ¬â¢ as a symbol or representation of Parry.

According to Craig Scott, a man I saw tell Rachelââ¬â¢s story, Rachel was the middle of five kids, but she handled that pretty well. She was very social and never passed up a sleep over at a friendââ¬â¢s house, a school event, or playing a board game with her family. Rachel loved being around people, it energized her. Her parents said that she could light up a room with her presence.She loved music and photography as well. Rachel wasnââ¬â¢t worried about anything besides her profile. The story opens when an unnamed narrator says that he is not insane, but nervous. He is of the view that the disease afflicting him has made his senses sharper. He talks about an old man who has never harmed him; yet the old manââ¬â¢s blue eye frightens him. The narrator observes the old man closely and one day, he murders him. Les Miserables By Victor Hugo -Social Injustice - Essay Example These themes are stressed by Hugoââ¬â¢s thoughts and views on politics, religion and justice; this forms a major part of the discourse. Though each of the mentioned themes are evident throughout the novel, they become more clearer on following certain characters who form the spine of the novel. These are, Jean Valjean and Javert, it is through these characters that we witness the extent of social injustice in early France. Social Injustice in Early France Social justice takes many forms; however, this study restricts its analysis to the three forms of social injustice highlighted by Hugo. Hugo in his book Les Miserables brings into focus three areas that require urgent attention, education, criminal justice and the welfare of women. These also happen to constitute a major part of social injustice not only as discussed by Hugo but also as highlighted by different social definitions. A look at France at the time of Hugoââ¬â¢s writing reveals a largely stratified society which was yet to receive the promises and aspirations of those who participated in the French revolution of 1789. It is understood that proper governance which would inevitably translate to social justice was one of the major driving force prior to the French Revolution. Therefore, it was hoped that with the revolution social justice would be achieved. Social justice in this regard referred to equitable distribution of resources, observance of equity in terms of gender and equal employment opportunities. However, close to a century after the revolution this still remained a pipe dream as highlighted in Hugoââ¬â¢s book. French socialists largely blamed capitalism; they argued that capitalism was an immoral system. They looked at capitalism as the reason behind the long working hours, child labor, poverty of working people, unemployment, income inequalities, social injustice and multiple other problems (Pejovich 18). It is these very concerns that form the backdrop of Hugoââ¬â¢s Les Mise rables, he is concerned of the rampant inequality and disregard of human equity. This particular concern is highlighted in the case of Fantine a young energetic woman. She is left to care for her child after the childââ¬â¢s father deserts them; she undergoes immeasurable suffering including a six month jail term for defending her dignity. This is just one instance of injustice against women in the novel; other injustices identified by the French sociologists are rife in Hugoââ¬â¢s book. Child labour is seen in the case of Cosette, Fantineââ¬â¢s daughter who is forced to work by her custodians who still go ahead to demand money for her upkeep. In short, early France was driven by struggles between two main stratifications, the rich and the poor. The rich decided how the poor would lead their lives and provided for systems which completely ignored the rights and privileges of the poor. Most notably, they used law enforcers to continually suppress the poor in a bid to ensure s ubordination. The face of such force in Hugoââ¬â¢s Les Miserables is Javert, Javer was born of a convict father but later denounced both his parents. He chose to work in prison as a guard; at one point he was mandated to guard against a chain gang whose one of the members happened to be Jean Valjean. Javert later on joins the police force, through his new position he is mandated to rid the city off offenders. One of the offenders is Jean Valjean who is apparently a repeat
